May Visitors
St. Joseph's Academy welcomed visitors from the US. Noah Kilonzo, who has visited St. Joseph's yearly over the past four years (10–14 days at a time), returned this year with three of his university friends: Khiry Dukes, Mike Rjj Jackson, and Allen Rogers.
As they traveled to Kenya, they brought teaching resources for the school — PE equipment, learning games, books, and other learning aids that will enhance student learning.
The visitors spent time at school and also toured various parts of Kenya, including a safari and a few days at the coast in Mombasa. Noah will continue to return, and his friends hope to return as well.
Students, staff, and parents appreciate the resources brought by these visitors, their interest in the Kalawa project, their encouragement, and their friendship.
July Visitor
Lizzie Hansen is a gifted 3rd grade teacher in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and a friend and former colleague of Paula's.
Lizzie brought needed teaching resources for the students and teachers, and shared her teaching skills with both teachers and students. She was instrumental in creating and implementing our first St. Joseph's Fun Day — students and teachers experienced learning through games and experiences: an obstacle course, interactive music and motions, board games, relays, and more — all incorporating language, comprehension, problem-solving, and teamwork.
An unforgettable, wonderful, exhausting, learning day was had by all. Lizzie plans to return to St. Joseph's in the summer of 2024.
